The Full Story
About
Plank and Splinter was started off of a challenge between two friends. What started as a design challenge grew into a dream of independence. Out of school and with no design job opportunities this became a creative outlet to create using the same principles to create more solutions. The idea is simple, make durable and affordable furniture without screws or nails.
Durability
Most furniture bought by young families and college students are made of particle board with screws and pins. When a move is required those screws never seat fully again, the pin holes are worn and the whole piece becomes unstable. The Plank and Splinter designs are made to be taken apart and rebuilt time and time again without degradation to their structure.
Simplicity
The designs use simple joinery and intuitive shelf sizing so that even without directions the pieces can be built easily. The production follows this idea taking advantage of CNC manufacturing where each piece is made in only 3 steps.
Exploration
With the starting lineup for furniture, we are always looking to expand our capabilities and designs. New projects such truck bed inserts and van buildout kits push our boundaries while innovations in production lead to rapid customization.
